About This Site

THE MARKET ONLine was created as a simple classifieds site that is easy to use, free of advertising, does not charge excessive fees and does not contain much spam. It took into consideration the natural human behaviour:

Search by keywords - we offer 3 search options: by category, by search string and (optionally) postcode and faster search that matches the keywords defined for each posting

Search for local postings (we show you the most recent ones on the home page once you have logged in)

View the most recent postings first (they always show on top of the results)

Having many levels of sub-categories results in many postings under the wrong one, therefore a search across sub-categories will be required - we only offer one level which is quite distinct

An image thumbnail helps to assess the relevance of the posting, sometimes without even reading the desription - we show thumbnail in each record that has an image uploaded

Simplicity - we cater for different users: all options are straightforward, all buttons are clearly visible, no pages require long scrolling and there is always a link back to home page

Security and spam - we require registration to post an ad and we moderate all postings to reduce the fraudulent, offensive or suspicious content

To minimise chances of your posting being delayed or rejected, please write in plain English, use natural language and avoid special symbols (e.g. currency or bullet points) in your text

As a launching promotion all postings are free, in the future the cost of an ad will be the coin value in the logo

There are 2 types of search available: by search string and (optionally) by post code (Standard search) OR by matching up to 2 keywords where defined within the posting (Fast search). In addition postings can be browsed by category. Search is not case-sensitive.

We currently do not offer Personals posts due to the high volume of spam in these categories, however we plan adding new categories soon.

Here are some of the new features we plan adding:

•  Daily report on matching Wanted and Offered postings to subscribed users
•  Search for Wanted items on other sites
•  HTML tags in postings
•  Unlimited postings and options to promote them
